Georgie learnt to sew in the 1970’s lovingly making dolls clothes and blankets. This talent grew to become the creation of her own wardrobe, always wearing original, and somewhat outlandish, self created clothing. Initially starting with a funky kids clothing range, this quickly branched into Adults “one-off” pieces.

Her first Fashion Parade “Cyber Predations” was at the Tasmanian Fringe Festival (in 2000). In 2003, whilst travelling through Asia she teamed up with (now Husband) Alex and duplicated a range of clothing from ‘out of her Backpack’! Responding to many friends’ pleas of “make me something like that”, so Georgie kept sewing. Thus the love and passion of Black Bambu commenced.

Slowly Alex and Georgie embarked on tailoring and creating their designs in Indonesia, whilst being mesmerised by the wondrous fabrics, colours and the Arts behind these incredible pieces of fabric. Black Bambu has worked with the same Tailors since 2005. Enabling this family to grow within their industry.

Our families are now entwined sharing, creating, eating and laughing together, with our children playing happily against this artistic backdrop. Weaving together a love of Family, Earth, Art and Culture we bring you the collection of Black Bambu.
